I serve as Director of Music at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Nashville. I was the editor of The Christian Life Hymnal (Hendrickson Publishers, 2006). I studied Piano, Organ and Church Music at Cedarville University (Ohio), religion and business at Aquinas College (Nashville), graduating from Belmont University in Nashville. I will complete a Masters of Church Music this year at Lee University (Cleveland, Tennessee).
“Wonderful, Merciful Savior” was written in 1989 by my wife Dawn Rodgers and me, and has been recorded by many Christian artists including Selah, Phillips Craig & Dean, Kari Jobe, Anthony Evans, Kathy Troccoli, Travis Cottrell, Katie Giguere, Kim Hill, Susan Ashton, Women of Faith, and Steve Camp. It was nominated for a Gospel Music Association Dove Award in 2002 for “Inspirational Song of the Year”. This modern hymns has been included in several new hymnals, including The Baptist Hymnal (LifeWay Worship, 2008), Songs for Worship & Praise (Taylor Publications, 2010), and Rejoice Hymnal (Majesty Music, 2011).
I have written several service music settings which we use at my church. The setting of the Lord’s Prayer, “Our Father in Heaven,” is gaining acceptance in many churches, and is used in the chapel services at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. My setting of Agnus Dei, “Lamb of God,” was recorded on the project “THE CHRIST: His Passion – Remembering the Sacrifice” on Essential Records and is sung by Bebo Norman and members of the band Casting Crowns. These scores are available at no cost as downloads at www.sibeliusmusic.ericwyse.com
My hymn tune settings of “At the Name of Jesus” (tune: BELLE RIVE) and “When Jesus Died to Save Us” (tune: CEDAR LANE) are included in the recently published hymnal from the National Associate of Congregational Christian Churches/GIA, Hymns for a Pilgrim People: A Congregational Hymnal. Also included in this hymnal is my setting of the Gloria Patri, “Glory to the Father,” and “Wonderful, Merciful Savior”.

I have heard “Wonderful, Merciful Savior” performed with the Apostle’s Creed recited in between the verse and chorus. Do you know of any recording that has been made with this adaption?
Thank you for your time. Blessings!
I’ve not heard any recording in that form. Did you hear it live (in church or concert) or recorded (radio, TV, YouTube?)
